How to be a fit-ish mom

It has been almost a year since I started my fitness journey (for lack of a better phrase).

I am a busy, tired, cranky mom like most of you reading this are.
BUT a year ago I decided that if I was going to

  • feed my kids veggies and fruits
  • make sure they moved their bodies everyday
  • told them how strong they were
  • made sure their meals were planned and balanced

then I better be able to show that to them as well.

I was raised on the phrase “Do as I say not as I do.”  Which is complete bullshit. That’s all kids do is what we do!
So, I needed to DO what I wanted them to DO.

I know what you’re thinking…

Yay…(eye roll)
Another fit mom who has all the time
who is super healthy all the time.
has well behaved kids and all the time to workout
Money to workout
&
Time to meal prep.

Haha NOPE! To be a fit-ish mom I’ve changed a few things and if I CAN DO IT SO CAN YOU!

Start small

Find something you love for fitness

Do not start a workout routine you hate.
Do not
start running if you dread it.

Do not plan to workout 2 hours a day for 7 days a week.
That’s crazy!  You have to enjoy it (at least a little).  You need to be excited. Find something that is fun for you.

Being a mom is hard if you are going to take a journey to be fit you need to take that time and like what you are doing.  Do it for you.

Once you find something that you love (or at least like)- Make the time.
I feel you rolling your eyes again…

You have the time what you need is a plan

The best thing I did was make a plan when I started.  When I could make the time to workout.  In the beginning I had to make it first thing in the morning so my husband could watch the kids.  Now that I have been at this for a year I workout during dinner while my husband is at work and my boys are eating.

There is always time you just have to find it.
An hour on Instagram goes by really fast so you can find 20-30 mins to become fit-ish I promise.

An organizer like this one is great because having a plan is half the battle.  Sit down and come up with what and when you are going to make this happen.

First things first- what are you going to do.

If you are just starting out it could be as simple as a 10 min walk with the kids before dinner.
Or maybe you want to jump right in to an exciting program (that is what I did).
Can you make 2 healthier meals a week?
Maybe add a veggie to afternoon snack?
Are you going to workout at home or the gym?

Just start!

Second thing- when

Like I said an hour on Instagram is easy so why not fit in some fitness or nutrition??  But it is NOT enough to say what you are going to do.  You NEED to know when.

Can you wake up early?
Maybe take a walk on break at work
Can you pack an apple instead of a bag of chip?
Plan to drink water instead of pop with dinner?
Stay up 20 mins later and workout before bed

If you stay home use nap time or quiet time to make time for you to workout or meal prep a healthy dinner

Pick a time and schedule it.  Hell, pick 2 times in case motherhood get in the way of plan A (which is likely)

The time is there you just have to make the plan!

The key to being a fit-ish mom

The real key to being a fit-ish mom, just do your best.
The goal of being a fit-ish mom is to have a healthy life style to share and instill in our little ones.

move our bodies when we can
eat good food when we can
be role models for positive self image
&
hopefully set a healthier standard of living for our babies-

all while giving ourselves grace because mom-ing is hard work y’all!!

We aren’t out to be body builders, super models or Olympic gold medalist (unless you are then, go you!!). We’re just out to be good healthy{ish}, fit{ish}, moms!
